Get your mind out of the gutter, silly gooses.
The title refers to a scene from the Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant comedy “Extras.” (Watch it if you haven’t. Not as good as “The Office,” but still sublime.)
Why all the muffin talk, Bree? Because I found a leave-in hair treatment that smells EXACTLY LIKE POPPY SEED MUFFINS.
DermOrganic’s leave-in treatment leaves hair soft, shiny, is a heat protectant, and repairs damaged hair. You can find the entire DermOrganic at Ulta or online here.
No, I mean it.
I MEAN IT.
It’s called “Healing Oil Treatment” by Macadamia Natural Oil.
You know when a guy walks past you in a store, and he smells so good that you end up (inadvertently) following him around? He doesn’t smell like strong cologne or body spray. He just smells….yummy. Like it’s a mix of his shampoo and laundry detergent. This is that smell!
And it doesn’t hurt that this product leaves your hair super soft, super shiny, and cuts your blow-drying time in half.
However, I don’t recommend standing in the aisle at Ulta, with your eyes closed and your body swaying back and forth ever so slightly while you deeply inhale it. You may get some odd looks. Just sayin’.
$13.50-$39.95 at Ulta and Target.
Messing around with perfume samples and was reminded how friggin’ good Michael Kors’ original perfume (just called ‘Michael Kors’) is.
This stuff still holds up. It is sexy, heavy, and warm. Definitely a fall, winter, and maaaaaaybe an early spring scent.
Michael Kors by Michael Kors debuted in 2000. Top notes are freesia, incense, and tamarind; middle notes are tuberose, iris, and peony; base notes are musk, cashmere wood and vetiver.
I love to wear it to bed.
Side note: I seem to get more compliments from women than from men with this perfume. I’d like to think it’s because women have a more sophisticated sense of smell-and they know a future classic when they smell one!
$54 at Sephora.
OH GOOD GOD I’M 31.
So, the fine lines and forehead wrinkles are starting to appear. And since I don’t have big enough balls to get botox, I’ve been on the hunt for an instant wrinkle filler for when I need a quick fix.
Here are my top picks:
Peter Thomas Roth’s Instant Firm
Your forehead won’t budge for hours, I promise. Just be careful not to use too much, as it can get a little ashy. I know it’s spendy at $48, but Ulta and Sephora have a mini-sized version available for $10. Boom. Perfect.
Revlon’s Age Defying Wrinkle Remedy Line Filler
It’s a great primer for your forehead and around your eyes. And it prevents makeup from settling (and highlighting) your wrinkles. Boom, sold again. This stuff is available anywhere- Walgreen’s, Target, ect. A steal at $12.
Good luck, and let me know what works for you!
As a brunette, it’s ridiculously hard to find a dry shampoo that doesn’t turn your hair white-or even worse, GRAY. I’ve gone through countless bottles and samples and usually end up feeling like this:
Well, last week I received an email from Ulta that came with a coupon for a free sample of Sebastian Dry Clean Only dry shampoo. (I believe everyone who has an Ulta Rewards Program account got the email. Sign-up is free, either in-store or online.)
So with the coupon in my hot little hand, I headed out. And guess what. It works. No ashy grayness. No fingers and foreheads stained with color. The full-size product is $19.95, which is a little spendy. But because they’re awesome, Ulta also sells a travel-size can for $4.95. Perfect.
Hot damn, ladies. I’m not even kidding. It’s magical.
Best. Brow gel. Ever.
Sorry. For. Typing. Like. This.
Like so many other ladies out there, I too am a victim of over-plucked brows. And every single time I try to grow them out, I freak because I think I look a hot mess. Then, the vicious cycle starts again. I was starting to lose hope because brow pencils never look quite “natural” on me. ENTER: BENEFIT’S GIMME BROW.
This shit WILL NOT BUDGE. It won’t come off in the rain or snow. It’s easily buildable. It comes in two colors- Light/Medium and Medium/Deep. I have dark brown hair and very pale skin (like, Vampire Jessica from True Blood pale skin), and I use the Medium/Deep. If I wanted to, I could easily use the Light/Medium as well-I’d just have to layer it a bit more.
GET IT! Available at Sephora and Ulta.
Every woman should have a signature scent. Mine used to be Miss Dior Cherie, but Dior decided to quit producing it. THE HORROR! So the hunt was on for a new magic potion. I favor fresh scents in the spring and summer (Clinique Happy in Bloom, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, Giorgio Armani Acqua di Gioia) and heavier, sweeter scents (Prada Candy, Jimmy Choo, Lavanila Pure Vanilla) in the fall and winter.
If you have a Sephora in your hometown, I’d suggest doing your perfume shopping there. They’ll give you a sample of any perfume you want, even if the perfume company doesn’t provide them. Sephora has their own little vials they’ll fill if you ask. How stinkin’ cool is that? It’s about a three day sample, so you can wear it more than once before you decide on your purchase. (I highly recommend wearing a new perfume for at least a couple days before you spend your hard earned money on a whole bottle. Perfume truly does smell different on everyone, and everything from the weather to stress can tweak the notes.)
I first saw See by Chloe in magazine inserts, and it always smelled wonderful, but unfortunately those ads don’t always give us an accurate picture. So I went into Sephora and got myself a sample. The first time I wore it…..meh. Just, meh. Then I tried it again about a week later, and WHOOP THERE IT IS. With with top notes of apple blossom and bergamot, middle notes of jasmine and ylang-ylang, and a base of sandalwood and vanilla, it’s like someone giving you a big hug wearing a soft, fuzzy sweater. I know it sounds weird, but I find to be an almost calming scent, so I’ll even wear it to bed. It’s not too heavy and not too light, so it’s great to wear year-round. See by Chloe isn’t loud or flashy – it’s subtle and warm. It’s perfect. Available at Sephora, Macy’s, and Nordstrom. $78 for a 1.7 oz. bottle.
